Lady Scots get ultimate revenge, rout visiting Oglethorpe in NCAA 1st Round

Oh, how things can change.

The Maryville College Lady Scots may have lost at Oglethorpe University back in November, but you would never have guessed that Wednesday night in the Cooper Athletic Center.

The Lady Scots rolled virtually from start to finish in an impressive 93-61 NCAA Tournament first round victory over the visiting Stormy Petrels (21-7).

MC improves to 23-6 and advances to meet 4th-ranked DePauw University (27-1) Saturday night in second round action.

Natalie Munday, fresh off her GSAC Tournament MVP honor, was again unstoppable in the post. The freshman from Knoxville hit 12 of 16 shots from the field, posting a game-high 28 points to guide the winners offensively.

After a back and forth opening 6:00, Maryville begin to take control. Using a crucial 13-3 run, the hosts jumped out to a 21-11 lead with 12:12 remaining in the first half.

The Lady Scots closed the opening frame on a 16-7 spurt to grab a sizable 48-32 cushion at halftime.

Helped by a 15-4 burst to begin the second 20 minutes, MC quickly increased its lead to 27 just 5:00 into the period.

It was never in doubt from then on as Oglethorpe would get no closer than 20 down the stretch with Maryville eventually maintaining a 30-plus point lead in the last 8:00.

MC, who drained nine big three-pointers and shot 58.2% from the field, outscored the Petrels 45-29 in the final half.

Andrea Plemons pitched in 17, Charise Bain added 15 and Summer Dalton tacked on another 12 for the high-powered Maryville offense.

The visitors were paced by Katie Kulavic’s 12 tallies.

Tip time for the second round matchup with the host Tigers is set for 7:00 Saturday night in Greencastle, IN.
