Scots end season and NCAA run, 69-51
The Maryville College Fighting Scots ended their 2005-2006 season with a 69-51 defeat at the hands of Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi during the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
The Scots (21-8) opened the game en route to a seven-point advantage only to see the Choctaws close the gap (20-20) with 6:28 remaining in the first half. Bobby Golden’s pair of free-throws with :06 left put Maryville up 26-24 going into the intermission.
The Choctaws (28-1) came out of the locker-room with a vengeance and posted eight straight points. Maryville’s Quinn Bradley hit a two-point bucket to tie the game (35-35) with 15:00 remaining. From this point, Maryville’s offense got cold and Mississippi went on a 34-19 run for the 18-point victory.
Bobby Golden and Bradley Blair paced the Scots offense with 16 points each. The pair tallied nine rebounds as well.
The Choctaws were led by Devin Jones and Orlando Lewis who each deposited 16 and 15 points respectively.
Mississippi College advances to the NCAA Division III "Sweet Sixteen".
