Piedmont upsets Maryville to win GSAC championship
Piedmont junior forward Drew Griffin scored three goals to lead the Lions to a 4-2 win over top-seeded Maryville in the GSAC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. Griffin, who led the GSAC in scoring, scored three goals for the second consecutive match. He was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Griffin scored two quick goals in the match's first eight minutes to put the Lions up 2-0. Chad Davis and George Sandi had assists on the goals. The Scots cut the deficit in half on Evan Giordano's unassisted goal at the 30 minute mark.

Alan Creasy gave Piedmont a two-goal lead again with an assist from Sandi in the 56th minute. Maryville came to cut the lead to one, 3-2, when Ben Lawson scored unassisted. Griffin finished the scoring in the 86th minutes as Sandi had his third assist of the match.
