Maryville wins GSAC Championship as Lambert gets #500

LaGrange, Ga. - Maryville College Scots (21-6, 6-0 GSAC) gave Coach Randy Lambert two gifts Saturday afternoon as the Scots defeated LaGrange College (18-8, 4-2 GSAC) 80-58 in the Great South Athletic Conference championship game at LaGrange College.

Coach Lambert’s team gave him another conference title and the 500th win of his coaching career.

The Scots led at the half 36-27. In the second half, Maryville outscored LaGrange 44-31 on their to an 80-58 victory. The Panthers have never beaten the Scots since the formation of the Great South in 2000.

Maryville recaptures the conference title after losing the championship to Huntingdon last season.

The Scots were led in scoring by Bo Mason with 25 points, who was 14-14 from the free throw line, while Alex Bowers, Bobby Golden and Bradley Blair each added 15 points in the effort.

Maryville will now wait until Monday morning when the NCAA selection committee announces the bids to the national tournament. The Scots will be seeking one of the at-large bids.
