Piedmont earns GSAC's first women's NCAA automatic berth
LaGrange, Ga. - The Piedmont College women earned the Great South Athletic Conference’s first NCAA national tournament automatic bid with a 60-59 win over Maryville College in the championship game at LaGrange College on Saturday.

Nikki Sosebee hit a free throw with one second left on the clock to break a 59-59 tie. The game was close throughout, with neither team having a lead of more than six points.

Piedmont’s Beth Adcock was named the tournament’s MVP. She had 16 points to lead the Lady Lions. Lisa Jennings and Yetta Bailey had 10 points each for Piedmont. Maryville’s Katie Saxe led all scorers with 20 points. Natalie Munday added 12 points for the Lady Scots.

Piedmont (18-7) will find out Monday who their opponent will be in the NCAA tournament. It will be the first NCAA appearance for the Lady Lions. Maryville (23-5) will find out if it will receive an at-large bid.
