Maryville earns 14th NCAA bid, heads to Mississippi

The Maryville College men’s basketball team will travel to Jackson, Mississippi to participate in the program’s 14th bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The four team bracket will have tournament host Mississippi College (25-2) taking on Occidental College of Los Angeles (19-5). Maryville College (21-6) will challenge The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (22-5). Action is slated for Friday March 2nd.

Maryville, winners of the Great South Athletic Conference, earned a Pool B at-large bid.The Cru of Mary Hardin-Baylor earned their first ever NCAA tournament appearance when they received one of 18 at-large Pool C bids in the 59-team tournament.

Head Coach Randy Lambert and his Scots look to extend their NCAA record eight consecutive NCAA tournament appearances with at least one victory. The 27 year mentor earned his 500th career victory over LaGrange College in the GSAC tournament final.

Mississippi College advanced to the National Tournament after winning their sixth American Southwest Conference title with a 77-64 victory over Hardin Simmons College. Occidental earned their trip to the dance with a thrilling double overtime victory at Whittier College to win the SCIAC Championship, 63-61.

The first round match-ups will begin on Friday March 2nd. The winners of the pair of games will play on Saturday afternoon. Game times and ticket information will be announced later today.
