Maryville men advance in NCAA Tournament, 73-62

The Maryville College Scots men’s basketball team extended their NCAA Division III record of first round tournament victories to nine following a 73-62 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Clinton, Mississippi on Friday evening.

Great South Athletic Conference Player of the Year Bobby Golden was strong in the paint with a game high 21 points. The pre-season All-American hit 11-of-12 free-throws on the evening. Junior perimeter specialists Bo Mason and Brady Neal each recorded 10 points, each hitting key treys throughout the game. Junior Quinn Bradley added nine points and played outstanding defense on the Crusaders top scoring threats. Bradley Blair and Alex Bowers each posted eight points to help the Scots (22-6) to the eleven point victory.

The Crusaders (22-6) were led by Kevin Guyden’s 20 point effort. MC’s stingy defense allowed Ryan Burgart, the Cru’s inside force at 6’10”, only 11 points during the contest. Neiman Ford and Carter Tynes each finished with nine points to assist the Texas school.

Maryville will advance to a 7:00 p.m. (CST) game on Saturday. They will face the winner of Mississippi College and Occidental College.

WBCR Radio (AM 1470) will have all the action beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST.
