Mississippi College ends Maryville's successful season

Mississippi College earned their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III’s “Sweet Sixteen” following a 76-56 victory over Maryville College on Saturday evening.

In the first half Bobby Golden’s first two free-throws gave Maryville their only lead of the half 2-0. A ten point advantage following a 28% shooting performance was cut to only six at the 6:00 mark. The Choctaws rallied on 52% shooting from the field and a rebounding advantage (21-13) to extend their lead to 34-23 at the half.

At the break, the Scots were paced by Bradley Blair’s nine points. Brady Neal hit MC’s only trey for a five point first half. The Choctaws used nine points from Ryan Hudson and D.J. Jones. Marcus Evans posted eight points for Mississippi.

The second half saw Maryville limited to second shot opportunities by the Choctaws out-rebounding the Scots 42-29. Their 32% shooting allowed an eleven point disadvantage expand to the 20-point defeat. Mississippi College finished shooting 52% from the field.

The Choctaws (26-2) had four players in double figures. Timothy Broomfield posted a double-double with 10 rebounds and 15 points. D.J. Jones led Mississippi College with 17 points. Marcus Evans and Ryan Hudson finished with 13 and 12 respectively.

Maryville (22-6) got 17 from senior Bradley Blair. Senior Bobby Golden fouled out at the 5:21 mark with 14 points.

“You never want the season to end, but I am happy for our seniors Bobby and Bradley,” stated Head Coach Randy Lambert. “They had outstanding careers at MC. Not many players can say they played in the NCAA tournament in each of their collegiate seasons. Our underclassmen earned a great deal of experience today and learned where we want to be in the future.”
