LaGrange, Maryville eliminated at Division III softball regionals

The LaGrange and Maryville softball teams had their seasons end Friday. LaGrange (26-20) lost 2-0 to Salisbury at the Fayetteville, N.C. regional, while Maryville (24-13) lost 4-0 to Allegheny at the New Concord, Ohio regional.

Both teams had lost their regional openers Thursday. LaGrange lost 1-0 to host Methodist. Maryville lost its opener to Alma 12-0.

It was the first NCAA appearance for LaGrange and the first for the Lady Scots since 2002. LaGrange defeated Maryville for the GSAC championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Maryville won the GSAC regular season championship and received an at-large inivtation to the tournament.

The appearance by LaGrange and Maryville was the first time the GSAC has sent two schools to an NCAA national tournament.
