Maryville rolls past Huntingdon to claim GSAC men's soccer championship
The Maryville College Men’s soccer team left little doubt in today’s Great South Conference championship game. By beating the Hawks 8-0, the Scots (12-5-1, 5-1) proved once again that the road through this conference goes through Court Street. Tournament MVP Evan Giordano made his mark early and often in the contest, scoring four of Maryville’s first five goals, giving him six on the season. Senior G.T. Podgorski also had a big game by scoring one goal and assisting on two others. Three other Scots found the back of the net in the match; they are Lee Ross, Hunter McDonald, and Tess Tivzenda. With the win Maryville has strengthened their resume for the NCAA Tournament, but still must wait to see if they will be invited to partake. Coach Fernandez had this to say about his club’s conference title, “We certainly had to battle all year long to get to this point. Every year this conference continues to get better and better, and it’s really becoming a grind to finish on top. I am really proud of my club today and the way they bounced back after a hard fought victory yesterday. This will give our team good confidence heading into the NCAA Tournament, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
