GSAC announces 2007-08 women's basketball awards

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced its 2007-08 women's basketball awards. Piedmont senior Nikki Sosebee is the GSAC Player of the Year. Maryville's Alex Rouevelas is the GSAC Freshman of the Year. Piedmont's Jamie Childs-Purdy is the GSAC Coach of the Year.

Sosebee led the Lady Lions in scoring and rebounding, averaging 11.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. In the GSAC, she ranked in the top 10 in six different categories. Sosebee led the GSAC in free throw shooting, making 62-of-73 during the season for a 81.9 percentage. She had a career-high 22 points twice during the season against the University of the South and again against Emory. Sosebee had six double-doubles during the season.

 

 

Rouevelas averaged 3.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game playing the wing for the Lady Scots. She scored a season-high nine points on three occasions. Rouevelas had a season-high six assists against Wesleyan. She had a season-high seven rebounds against Huntingdon.










Childs-Purdy led the Lady Lions (22-3) to a perfect 12-0 record and the GSAC regular season title. She is in her third season as head coach at Piedmont. Childs-Purdy led the Lady Lions to the GSAC tournament title and last season and the school's first NCAA Division III national tournament appearance.
