Peters, Shelton take baseball player of the week awards
The GSAC announced the Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards for baseball for the week ending March 2. Junior first baseman Ben Peters of Maryville is the Player of the Week. Piedmont's Spencer Shelton is the Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
Peters led the Fighting Scots to a 2-1 record last week. He was 5-for-10 with his first two home runs of the season, four RBIs and scored five runs in the three games. Peters' first home run came in a loss to fifth-ranked Emory. He is batting .286 on the season.
Shelton raised his record to 2-0 with a win against 10th-ranked Marietta. He pitched 7-2/3 innings, allowed only a run, three hits and struck out eight. Shelton also pitched a scoreless inning of relief in a loss to Adrian. He finished the week by going 2-for-3 at the plate, that included a home run, as the designated hitter in a win over the University of the South.
