The Maryville College women’s soccer program traveled to the state of Texas this weekend to take part in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Scots hooked up with the undefeated Tigers of Trinity University on Sunday afternoon. Maryville fell behind early and went on to loose the contest by a score of 5-0.
Trinity (17-0-0) scored four goals in the opening half, scoring all the goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. Two of the goals came off the foot of sophomore Kelly Watts. Watts finished the game with three goals for the Tigers, who finished the game with 12 shots as a team.
Head Coach Pepe Fernandez had this to say about his team’s 2009 season, “The girls should leave the field today with their heads held high. We had a tremendous year, and the program took a big step in the right direction. I just want to thank the girls for working so hard to get to this point, and I am looking forward to what should be another stellar season next fall.”
Maryville finishes the 2009 campaign with a record of 14-5-1.
