Maryville Soccer Teams Earns NSCAA Award

Maryville, TN -- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has announced that the Maryville College Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs have each been awarded the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

Coach Fernandez’s squads were one of only 97 schools from all divisions to have both programs earn this distinction. 141 men’s collegiate programs and 326 women’s soccer squads have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

This is the 11th consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award won by Coach Fernandez’s women’s squads, 15th overall. The 2009 award is the 7th national academic award within the men’s program.

Five Lady Scots were named to the GSAC All-Academic team in 2009. They include Jordan Chase, Morgan Goodman, Mandy Seiler, Jessica Petersen, and Jessica Thompson. The men had thirteen player searn league academic honors. Standouts in the classroom include Hunter Acosta, Travis Bolton, Ridge Carter, Daniel Gomez, Jake Holt, Robert Hudson, David Large, Ben Lawson, Chris Metts, Ryan Radcliffe, Jack Sowell, Tom Webster, and Cory Willis.
