Maryville College senior defender Jack Sowell has been named to the 2009 NSCAA Men’s Soccer NCAA Division III All-South-Atlantic Region team.

The Columbia, Tennessee native was a key defender that held opponents to only 18 goals on the season while the Scots earned the GSAC regular season and tournament titles with a 14-2-3 overall mark.

Sowell is a four-time All-Great South Athletic Conference performer. He scored three goals this season while placing only six shots on goal. His defensive prowess has helped goal keeper Bryan Walker climb to 5th in MC career shut-outs with 18 in only two seasons.

“Jack saved his best for his senior year,” stated Head Coach Pepe Fernandez. “He led our defense and added critical goals on set plays and free kicks. Jack leaves the program as one of our best players in MC history. It is nice to see him receive national recognition for his accomplishments.”
